THE Lord Mayor and the Sheriff of York will take centre stage on election night when they announce the results of the parliamentary polls for York Central and York Outer.
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Ian Gillies, will be the returning officer for York Central, while the Sheriff, John Kenny, will be the returning officer for York Outer, with the results to be announced at York’s Energise.
The returning officer for the City of York Council elections will be the authority’s chief executive, Kersten England, fulfilling one of her last key roles before leaving York to take over as chief executive at Bradford Council.
Cllr Gillies said that because he is Lord Mayor, he will not be able to canvass in York’s council elections, even though he is standing again for the Conservatives in the Rural West York ward.
