THE one-of-a-kind trophy for the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire has been on display in Selby this week.
More than 170 countries around the world will see hundreds of top-class riders, including Sir Bradley Wiggins, visit Selby when it hosts a start event for the race outside Selby Abbey on Saturday, May 2. The trophy was on display at the town’s new leisure centre on Monday, with members of the public invited to see it ahead of next month’s race.
Mary Weastell, chief executive of Selby District Council, said the authority was delighted to welcome the trophy to the town. She said: “Being part of the very first Tour de Yorkshire is very special.”
The trophy has already been on display in York, and is now on a mini-tour around Yorkshire, and will be presented to the overall winner on May 3 in Roundhay Park, Leeds.
