THE Green party's deputy leader Amelia Womack has visited York on the campaign trail journey around the country.
Ms Womack was with York Central's Parliamentary candidate Jonathon Tyler speaking to student at York St John university.
She spoke of the need to tackle York's housing crisis by building more affordable homes, and by reducing to VAT on home repairs to make sure that unused homes could be brought back into use - avoiding the need to use as much of the city's fiercely protected greenbelt.
Campaigning with her, the party's Guildhall candidate Denise Craghill said the Green's national policy of building half a million new social rented homes would bring much needed new houses for York without relying on private developers.
But the parliamentary candidate admitted that with York Central seen as a safe seat for the Labour party, he found himself telling voters they could safely vote for the Green party without fear of "letting in" a Conservative MP.
Mr Tyler said: "It can be demoralising but I have to be realistic. I have to say to people that Labour will win this seat, you can vote Green."
