YORK councillor Ann Reid is on cloud nine after her recent re-election - after polling the biggest vote in the history of City of York Council.
Cllr Reid, pictured, Liberal Democrat councillor in Dringhouses and Woodthorpe, has now been elected nine times, and last week became the first person since the council was founded in the mid-1990s to poll more than 3,000 votes, topping the May 7 election with 3,104.
She said: “I am delighted to have been re-elected to the council for the ninth time. To have so many residents put their trust in me is humbling and I shall continue to put Dringhouses and Woodthorpe at the heart of all that I do.
“The major concern voiced on the doorstep was the threat to the green belt and the overdevelopment of the city. I will be working with my two colleagues to have the sites on Moor Lane and behind The Square removed from the forthcoming revised draft Local Plan. I will also be pressing for the reinstatement of ward committee budgets to allow residents to have a very real say in how reduced budgets are used to meet the local priorities.”
This month’s elections saw the departure of several long-serving councillors, including Ken King, Brian Watson and Dave Merrett.
