New Earswick Indoor Bowls Club ladies got one over on their York IBC counterparts from Thanet Road when they comprehensively beat them 51-30 to retain the Lily Robertson Trophy.
At home, Diane Hardy's rink led 14-5 after ten ends but got a fright when Margaret Smith's team pulled back to within two shots. But the fight-back effectively ended there as the hosts triumphed 28-13.
Peggy Walker's team led Ella Armitt's four 18-5 after 13 ends at Thanet Road with the home team just not able to get into the game. Though they scored a six on the 17th end they perished 23-17.
Frank Turner and David Kermode won the Vets Pairs League play-off final at Thanet Road for the second year running after building up an early 15-1 lead. The 2005-06 winners Ken Hutson and Brian Thomas came back but only to within ten shots at 21-11, when Turner and Kermode won the next four ends to push towards a 27-13 win.
Carol Instone and Joan Jackson won a thrilling Ladies Langford pairs final beating last year's winners Maureen Walker and Trish Harrison.
The decisive stage was after Walker and Harrison had just scored two successive singles to pull back to 8-5 only to be hit by a three and a six. The duel finished three ends early with a 21-8 score affording Jackson her hat-trick of wins and Instone her first in this competition.
York and District IBC stage the Gents and Ladies Knockout Triples Finals with the matches between Ray Calpin, Malcolm Thompson and Eric Hodgson taking on Mick Parker, Eddie Howcroft and Rsss Barton, and Anita Haw, Sue Kirkpatrick and Doreen Giles meeting either Pat Bracken, Maureen Robinson and Sue Jeffreys or Carol Instone, Joan Jackson and Brenda Love next Thursday, starting at 6.30pm.
The final line-up for the Gents Singles at Thanet Road pits six-times winner David Stroughair against last year's victor and ex-England outdoor champion Paul Allenby on Monday, April 16 at 6.30pm.
Also on that night will be the finals of the Ladies Singles, Under-25s, U18s, U15s and the Gents Plate, the finalists for each still yet to be decided.
