ON Friday March 30 at 11.25am I drove along York Road at Haxby, behind a truck going towards York carrying scaffolding poles and planks.

I just wondered how many laws, all subject to fines/penalties, this driver broke in a very short distance.

At the Haxby Road/ Eastfield Road roundabout a sandwich wrapper was thrown from the cab window. Fortunately, there were no cyclists near enough to suffer any harmful consequences.

As we approached the Haxby Road/A1237 roundabout the driver answered his mobile phone, and as a result made a very wide, erratic turn onto the A1237 to go east. Again, fortunately there were no vehicles close enough to the roundabout to cause an accident.

The driver then made a very sharp turn, at right angles across the road, to park in the lay-by for westbound traffic.

I wasn't around to witness what sort of manoeuvre was made in order to recross the carriageway, when he continued his careless, inconsiderate journey.
