WARREN Philliskirk and Eurig Evans overcame a loose propshaft to finish fifth in the Wold Construction North Humberside Forest Rally.
They were the top finishers from York Motor Club in their Metro 6R4 and it was a good result considering the number of modern World Rally cars entered for the Whitby-based event which took place in the North Yorkshire Forests.
Other YMC drivers to shine were A G Motors' Gary Cooper and Jon Riley and the Air Supply Subaru of Jeff McNeil and Fred Roberts, who were both having maiden outings in showroom category Imprezas.
Cooper had been trailing McNeil all day but a final push on the last stage saw a 15-second deficit turn into a three-second lead with Cooper finishing 15th and McNeil right behind in 16th.
Ian Jemison and Owen Wallbank's Porsche Boxster improved from a start number of 71 to finish 30th. Dust from catching cars slowed them but they still managed to win their class.
Philip Welch and Plug' Pulleyn finished 38th in a VW Golf kit car and John Lowe and Garry Green in a 1400cc Nova were fourth in class and 40th overall to score points in their BTRDA title chase.
Roger Kilty and navigator Lynette Banks won the historic class in their Vauxhall Chevette, while Ian Tippett and Pat Cooper came 74th in a Mitsubishi Evo.
As reported earlier in the week by the Press, the rally was won by Steve Perez and York co-driver Craig Thorley.
