WITH the school holidays upon us, many younger anglers will be heading for the banks of their local lake over the Easter vacation.
Litter is still a recurring problem at many fisheries and it seems to be a particular issue at Rawcliffe Lake.
Anglers are reminded that tins and cans are not allowed on York venues and that they should prepare their bait at home. While younger anglers are not solely to blame for litter, the problem seems more acute in areas where the youngsters and their non-angling mates congregate.
There are no matches booked over the holiday period so no excuses for not wetting an Easter line.
If you fancy something a little more strenuous, then there is plenty of bank work needed. If you are able to put something back into your sport then contact Jeff Marley.
Raker Lakes continues to fish well with some big carp to double figures being taken on pole and cat-meat or paste fished tight to the marginal tree cover.
Floating bread is also scoring here and for those not wishing to or having the kit to float a pole out the 18 metres or so to the far side, a bomb will work just as well.
Fish the floating bread on a hook length slightly longer than the depth of the far-side and the bread will pop up to the surface firmly anchored in place. Loose feeding floating pellets doesn't seem necessary on Horseshoe and only serves to draw the attentions of the local wildfowl.
Langwith Lakes was in brilliant form last week and match anglers will be hoping the success continues for Sunday's open on Emma and Anya's Lakes.
With 100lb needed to make the top spot recently and a number of other 70lb-plus nets, it is shaping up to be some venue.
Some serious bagging has also been going on at Carpvale, especially on the front pond and match lakes. Pole and pellet has taken some excellent mixed catches with lots of carp to floaters.
If it is tench you want then look no further than Cyprio where plenty of fish to 8lb have fallen to worm or corn.

AN agreement has been reached with British Waterways regarding the re-instatement of fishing on a 30 metres stretch of the Melbourne Marina.
The section should house around three pegs and will run from the canal proper towards the marina. British Waterways will be installing some signage to demarcate the length.
Negotiations relating to extending leases on some popular fisheries have recently been concluded and the following venues are still available for the coming year. Kexby above on the Derwent gets an extra three years as do the excellent stillwaters at Sand Hutton and Claxton.
Redhouse Lagoon and the associated river frontage also gets an new lease of life for an extra five years.
