DO you want to help make sure York's historic city walls continue to look blooming marvellous?

The city's top beauty spots are famed for being awash with a sea of yellow when the daffodils sprout each spring.

Now City of York Council is offering the opportunity for people to help keep the city's historic walls and open spaces covered with "a host of golden daffodils".

The council's Parks And Open Spaces team is asking members of the public to support York's floral displays by making a donation towards the planting of the seasonal bloom.

A minimum donation of £35 will pay for 250 bulbs to be planted, and donors can choose which part of the walls they would like to have their bulbs planted on.

Bulbs will also be planted in Rowntree Park, West Bank Park and Hull Road Park.

Dave Meigh, the council's head of Parks And Open Spaces, said: "York's city walls are the most intact Medieval walls in England and attract one million visitors each year, many of whom come to see the magnificent displays of daffodils.

"Donations will help us maintain and improve the displays year after year, and they are a great way to make a memorable event, such as a birthday, anniversary, wedding, or to commemorate a special person.

"Anyone donating money will receive a letter and certificate confirming that their daffodils have been planted and to acknowledge their contribution."

Donations can also be made to help plant a tree, provide a park bench, or put a plaque on a bench in locations across the city.

A new promotional leaflet with details of all the types of donations people can make is now available from the council.
