I AM no golfer and am aware that councillors planning decisions are driven more by appropriateness than commercial viability.
The Press article on the new Rufforth golf course states that sports lobbyists welcome it.
I might be considered as much a sports lobbyist as Miriam Jackson (of the York Sport And Leisure Campaign) and a note of caution is necessary.
There has been an abundance of new courses around York in the last 15 years to the extent that waiting lists at established clubs are disappearing and some courses are struggling to maintain viability so another new course is a potential nail in another course's coffin and not necessarily likely to succeed itself.
