York MP Hugh Bayley joined Heworth Labour Party candidates on the campaign trail.
Of the three candidates, Paul Blanchard and Ruth Potter are seeking re-election to the council, and newcomer Christina Funnell is Labour's choice to replace Viv Kind, who announced she was standing down several months ago.
Hugh and the three candidates hit the trail on the Bell Farm estate.
"The response was really positive on the doorstep. People are aware their local Labour councillors are working hard for them" said Coun Blanchard. Christina Funnell said: "I'm really enjoying the campaign. Meeting lots of new people and hearing about their concerns. And we're very grateful to Hugh for his support."
Coun Potter said: "We're working hard for every vote - in politics you can't take anything for granted. But we're certainly encouraged with the response so far."
Other candidates for the Heworth ward are Jennifer Aitken (Green), Sam Blackburn (Lib Dem), Charlie Dyson (Con), Robin Hazzard-Gallagher (Lib Dem), Jaff Kelly (BNP), Ian Packington (Lib Dem), James Schofield (Con) and Andrew Wells (Con).
