IN response to previous letters about the yellow box system on the Askham Bar roundabout, I would like to have my say.

The yellow box is a hindrance, stops traffic from flowing smoothly and causes gridlock and potential accidents. I have spoken to three people who use the roundabout now, who are unhappy with it.

I would urge the council to take off their blinkers and get someone to monitor the roundabout at peak times to see the effect the box is having. This is around the third letter sent in to The Press so I think they now have enough complaints to at least monitor the situation.

* A City of York Council spokeswoman said: "It is recognised that these markings are advisory, however they have been installed with the intention of having a positive influence on road user safety.

Consideration to date has involved the police and we are aware that other authorities in the region are currently using these markings in comparable situations. As with all traffic regulations it will be appropriate to assess their effectiveness prior to taking any further action."
