IT is easy to make light of pregnant mums who put on weight.
"She's eating for two," we say. And so she is.
For York Hospital to have to fork out tens of thousands of pounds to cope with rising numbers of seriously overweight mums is something new, however.
Pregnant women weighing 25 stone are not unusual.
That is more than eating for two. It is shocking - and another sad indication of the growing epidemic of obesity in our society.
