THESE four Miss York contenders are set to raise vital funds for The Press Guardian Angels appeal.

Laura Greaves, Claire Pulpher, Nadia Alsarami and Karina Leigh Woodall are pictured visiting the children's ward at York Hospital, where the appeal is hoping to fund two life-saving high- dependency rooms with new, specialised equipment.

The four are just some of the contenders hoping to win the Miss Charity award as part of this year's Miss York contest, which takes place at The Royal York Hotel, on Sunday, May 20.

The finalists, joined by current Miss York, Catrina Lakin, chatted to the young patients and handed them gifts, including chocolate Easter eggs.

Claire Pulpher, 17, of Dunnington, York, said she planned to raise as much money as possible through her work as a line dance teacher and demonstrator, including collections and donations taken during classes.

Karina Leigh Woodall, 18, of New Earswick, who works as a nursery assistant and attends York College part-time, said she was planning to organise a race night at Yearsley Grove Hotel, on Saturday, May 12, with members of the public invited to attend.
