A FATHER-OF-TWO may never walk again after he and his brother plunged off a roof in a horrific accident.

As reported in The Press yesterday, Peter McKeating, 42, and his brother, Paul McKeating, 45, both of Bradford, fell 30 feet off a house roof in Riccall, near Selby.

Peter was airlifted to hospital with serious spinal and pelvic injuries after the incident at 11am on Wednesday.

He underwent a major operation at Leeds General Infirmary yesterday to remove a crushed disk and install two metal bars in his spine.

The brothers were carrying out repairs at a house in Kelfield Road, when the cast iron gutter which was supporting their ladder gave way.

Paul said: "Our Pete has got no feeling from his waist down to his knees and says he has got minimal feeling in his feet.

"There's some serious nerve damage and they can't say if he will walk again.

"As we were lying on the floor, we thought we were dying and we said we loved each other.

"We were in shock. Pete was writhing around in agony and I could see he was badly injured, so I told him not to move.

"I have come off lightly in comparison because I landed on my side whereas he landed on his leg and back.

"We are lucky to be alive."

Peter has two sons, Joshua, aged 15, and Alan, aged 20. Paul has one daughter, Natalie, aged 16.
