TWO or three years ago a large articulated lorry overturned at the A19 junction near the Designer Outlet, and the road to Selby was closed for nearly nine hours.

On top of that, traffic from Leeds to Selby was not informed, so came off the bypass, only to go around the roundabout and back onto the bypass to the Hull Road turn-off to get to Selby.

This road closure seemed to be very long, and it was brought back to me after the recent accident at Bilbrough (A64 horror, The Press, April 3), when the road was closed for seven hours.

Should it take that long? What is the intention of the police? Surely gathering the evidence in a fatal accident should not take so long with the use of video and camera.

Once the injured have been tended and removed from the scene, the road should be cleared and opened, unless, of course, it is damaged. Neither was the case in these incidents.
