IN response to Mr Moore's letter (Pavement politics, April 12) about resurfacing footpaths it might be useful to explain what work is to be carried out in his area.
A proportion of the highways budget is spent on preventative maintenance, and these footways could have their design life extended for another ten-plus years with the aid of a slurry seal, which arrests deterioration, seals the surface and provides an anti-slip surface.
These footpaths will benefit from this process. It is also cost-effective for the council to do this work on an area-wide basis rather than in individual streets.
I have asked that the other two areas that Mr Moore highlighted be inspected with a view to the necessary remedial work being carried out.
