YORK'S Stephen Gregson just missed out on a quarter-final place in the European Under-19 Snooker Championships.
The 17-year-old from Sutton-on-the-Forest was a member of the five-strong English team and finished second in his group stages behind eventual competition runner-up Vincent Muldoon (Ireland).
Michael White (Wales) won the event by beating Muldoon 6-2 in the final after being 2-0 down. White also won the IBSF World Championship two years ago at the age of 14 and will play on next season's World Snooker circuit.
Gregson's team-mates - Harrogate's Gyles Behbood, Stephen Craigie (Newcastle), Liam Highfield (Stoke) and Mitchell Mann (Birmingham) all won their groups undefeated but all went out in the quarter-finals.
Sixty-four players from 17 countries took part in the competition.
