POCKLINGTON Rugby Club's junior charity sevens in aid of Martin House Children's Hospice, produced plenty of keenly contested rugby, with the host club, Pocklington, winning two of the three tournaments.

The event, again sponsored by Pocklington company, Agriyork 400, saw 22 teams from across Yorkshire and the North East compete at three age groups of Under-13s, U14s and U15s.

In the U13s section, Pocklington transferred their recent good 15-a-side form into the sevens arena to win convincingly, beating South Yorkshire outfit, Wheatley Hills, 33-7 in the final. The U14s was the closest of the day with Selby and Malton & Norton coming through two cliffhanger semi-finals.

And it was even closer in the end-to-end final with the two being deadlocked at 21-21 at full-time, with Selby winning the competition on points countback.

In the U15s event, Hull Ionians were most people's favourites early on as their two teams stormed into the semis, but they then fell by the wayside as they were knocked out at the penultimate stage by Malton & Norton and Pocklington, with Pocklington going on to edge another close final 15-7.
