The York City Baths Club boys' A' team followed up their gold and silver successes at the Yorkshire Team Sprints Gala in Sheffield by entering team and individual events at the British Championships and Junior European Time Trials, which were held at the Manchester Aquatic Centre.

The youngest team there, comprising Chris Burns, 16, Olly Wilby, 15, Tom Jackson, 15, and Brad Swainston, 16, entered the men's open 4x100 metres team medley and finished fifth in a creditable time of 4min 16.39sec.

Burns also entered the 100m breaststroke time trials, finishing second with a time of 1-08.33, which beat his personal best by two seconds.

Both Wilby and Swainston entered the 100m backstroke trials and clocked times of 1-05.90 and 1-05.47 respectively, both achieving personal bests.

Coach Bryan Craig was overjoyed with their achievements over the week, which was a huge step up and learning curve for the team, and he felt the boys coped well with the pressures of a first major gala in the company of some of the best junior international swimmers from Europe.
