IN-FORM Kit Gilham stormed to victory at the Royal Sutton Road Race at Yoxhall, Staffordshire.

The York-based Clifton CC rider made an early breakaway in the 64-mile event but was caught after a couple of laps.

Gilham jumped away again though as part of a group of four with two laps to go, and this time they managed to stay clear of the main field of riders.

At the finish, Gilham went off the front for the win but was closed down by his rivals, but as the sprint got under way, the Clifton man launched another attack and went around the outside with 100 metres to go to win comfortably.

In other events, Phil Bixby was one of three Clifton riders in the Leeds Mercury veterans road race at Bishops Wood. He held on in the bunch sprint at the finish to take third place.

Clifton riders Paul Musgrave, Andy Johnston, Paul Bridgen and Anthony Atkin travelled to Middleton, near Driffield, for the Dave Mackay Memorial Road Race. The race was won by Scuthorpe Polytechnic rider Julian Ramsbottom, while Musgrave grabbed seventh place in the bunch sprint.

This Sunday sees the Clifton Three Bridges Audax' challenge ride.

The 158km non-competitive event heads out from Stamford Bridge towards Hull, crosses the Humber Bridge before returning through Goole and Howden.
