OUR story about members of a theatre group being asked to close the doors of their rehearsal hall to keep the noise in has promoted a response from a local resident.

On Tuesday, The Press told how youngsters rehearsing a version of the musical Les Misérables in Copmanthorpe WI Hall had sparked a complaint about noise nuisance.

Now another Copmanthorpian musician has got in touch - to say that not everyone who lives there is a misery guts.

Ken Stamp leads a band called Fanfare, who regularly practise in his garage. He said: "We get comments all the time from our neighbours, asking when we are going to rehearse again, so they can listen."

Next month, the band is hosting an open evening, and will be raising money for St Leonard's Hospice, in York.

Museum goose goes for gander
A NEW visitor to York Castle Museum seems to have ruffled more than a few feathers.

A mother goose has set up nest on the flat roof above the museum's entrance, and has been regularly popping in through the automatic doors for a look around.

But now museum staff have given her the bird - by deactivating the automatic sensor.

Museum spokesman Lee Clark said: "We have shut the automatic door, because the goose kept going into the museum."

He added: "There have always been geese around, but we have never had them on the roof before."

The RSPCA has now removed the mother goose, along with an adult male and three goslings, to a new home at St George's Field.

Candidate's cell phone mishap
LABOUR'S Tracey Simpson-Laing has had a rough time on the campaign trail.

The Acomb councillor, who is seeking re-election on May 3, has been desperately emailing all her friends and colleagues to track down their mobile phone numbers, after her own phone suffered something off a mishap.

Tracey is Labour's spokesperson for roads and transport - so we hope she at least saw the irony, after her mobile phone was run over by a car!
