THE new Chief Constable of North Yorkshire is to be Grahame Maxwell, the Deputy Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police.
He will take over in the £120,000 a year post from Della Cannings, who announced her retirement in January after four years at the helm.
Grahame Maxwell has been a police officer for 24 years, joining the Cleveland Constabulary in July 1983.
During a varied career, he has specialised in firearms, custody and CID, and was an assistant chief constable for West Yorkshire Police in the early 2000s.
Policing is a family affair, his father having been a village bobby in Durham.
