THE geography of York regarding the street Station Rise seems to confuse a lot of people.
Station Road goes from the foot of Lendal Bridge to the foot of Queen Street Bridge.
Station Avenue goes from the traffic lights adjacent to the Leeman statue to Leeman Road, effectively the foot of Lendal Bridge and Station Rise goes from Leeman Road opposite Westfield apartments to the Leeman statue.
The North Eastern Railway headquarters building has the main entrance on a short unnamed privately owned roadway between the building and the original Station Hotel (now railway offices), and has a small side entrance in Tanner Row.
The GNER headquarters should never be described as "in or at" Station Rise.
I surmise this misunderstanding and misnaming arose from the employees of the York West Yorkshire bus company who described the location of the railway war memorial as Station Rise as a driver changeover place for unknown reasons.
