A SCORCHING run of form at the turn propelled North Yorkshire king of swing Simon Dyson well up the BMW Asian Open leader-board after the first day.

Dyson posted a two-under-par 70 for the first round that left him tied for 14th place, four adrift of leader Raphael Jacquelin of France.

The Malton and Norton Golf Club ace did not fare too well in the middle of the outward nine where he dropped shots on both the par-four fourth and fifth holes. But a birdie four on the 590-yard ninth hole - the longest on the course - trimmed his deficit to just one over.

That inspired the 29-year-old to a blistering run. He birdied four of the next six holes, including consecutive successes on ten and 11. His only blip on the inward nine at Shanghai's Tomson Pudong GC was a bogey on the 17th.

His 70 left him as the highest-placed Englishman on the first day with top Brit being Scotland's Colin Montgomerie with a three-under 69.

Dyson's playing partners Ernie Els and Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee returned respective scores of 71 and 74.
