TRY-hunters from York RUFC's Under-15s were just perfect as they ended their season in fabulous fashion.

Already the North Yorkshire Cup winners, the young Clifton Parkers became the U15 regional champions - dominating their opposition without conceding a single point.

The competition, held at Darlington, saw York take on the might of Penrith, Northern, Aspatria, Barnsley, Acklam and Blaydon, with the sides playing in a league format with each match lasting 14 minutes.

Only Northern gave York any trouble as they swept past Penrith 15-0 thanks to tries from George Appleyard, George Elliott and Thomas Lineham.

A Toby Spark penalty handed York the narrowest of 3-0 victories over Northern next up but they were far more comprehensive in beating Aspatria 26-0.

Appleyard, a brace from Josh Igoe, Liam Killen, Thomas Lineham were all on the score-sheet and Spark made three conversions as the Clifton Parkers ran riot.

Adam Bowers, Luke Liddle and a Spark conversion accounted for a 12-0 success over Barnsley and Acklam then fell 19-0 after tries from Ben Owen, two from Elliott and a Spark conversion.

York's last game was against Blaydon, with the competition winner to be decided in the final game. Lineham's try and Spark's conversion gave the Shipton Road youngsters a 7-0 win and the trophy.

Alison Griffin, team manager, said: "It was a fantastic day. They really went for it, which was brilliant - especially as it was a roasting day but they are very fit.

"We have got a very talented group of players. Three of them, George Elliott, Thomas Lineham and Toby Spark play for Yorkshire, while seven others play for North Yorkshire.

"They are well coached. We have four coaches who come every week and, without them, they wouldn't be where they are.

"This was a great achievement and we played on a pitch which had a real sloped it. Hopefully next season we can go on and lift the Yorkshire Cup. I am sure this group of players is good enough to do it."
