CITY of York Hockey Club's Under-16 boys finished off their season in disappointing style losing all three games in the Yorkshire play-off finals.

Having qualified eighth out of eight for the tournament, tough opposition took the form of Ben Rhydding, Driffield and Brigg. York started off slowly losing 2-0 to a good Ben Rhydding side with notable performances from Peter Rowley, Tristan Wyke and Harry Booth in goal.

City picked up their performance against Driffield taking the lead after some excellent individual skill from Tom Feasby resulted in him flicking the ball over the 'keeper into the net.

Driffield were then allowed back into the game after some poor defensive marking allowed the Driffield centre forward to net twice from close range.

Chris McTurk's strong running from sweeper almost led to an equaliser but the score remained 2-1 at full-time. Joel Wilson put in a fine display at right-back.

The final game against Brigg started disastrously, quickly conceding three goals in the first ten minutes - two from slickly worked short corners.

If it were not for excellent defending by Sam Inns then the score could have been greater.

At 3-0 down York then began to play, Josh Cust forcing the ball home after Feasby's flick wasn't dealt with by the 'keeper.

A few minutes later York dispossessed Brigg in their own half and Tom Brown scored York's second after an incisive pass from Will Ellis.

Although David McDermattroe forced a last-minute save out of the net-minder the score remained 3-2 and York were left to go home rueing their missed chances.
