ENGLAND met the Rest of the World on the football pitch thanks to York College's International department.

The York College Football Development side took on a specially created International team in the Tadcaster Road centre's first college international match.

The Internationals were made up of students from Colombia, China, Turkey, Iran and Norway - all of whom are currently studying at York College.

England triumphed in the match 14-2, but the Internationals helped light up the encounter, scoring the goal of the game when skilful Colombian Andres Felipeaceredo fired a long range effort into the net from all of 30 yards.

England dominated the match however, with their superior skill levels and better fitness, but the International squad have vowed to make it a closer encounter when the two sides meet again next season.

The York College Football Development centre aims to help players go on to achieve their potential, receiving expert coaching, while following a full-time education programme.

It was the first centre in the region to receive the charter standard mark from the FA.
