GRAB those Stetsons and pull on your cowboy boots because a major country music festival is on its way to the Selby area.

Country music fans no longer need a ticket to Nashville to enjoy their favourite music. Towerfest - a new international country music festival - is coming to Drax Sports And Social Club. The open-air event will take place on Saturday, June 30, in the grounds of the club. Eight of the UK's top country music bands are set to appear.

Samantha Vines, managing director of Samanddance Limited, the company behind the event, said the line-up included Yorkshire's very own Chris Raddings, who will open the show, and Derbyshire's Travis Logan.

"From the red rose county, come two top country duos, Broadcaster and Magill," she said.

"The princess of country, Donna Wylde, will also perform, as will The Wanderers, an incredible act never before seen in Yorkshire."

She said Welsh group The Diamond T Band would make the event a truly international affair.

The Swing Commanders - a group who regularly top of the bill at larger, more established country music events - will headline the extravaganza.

Ms Vines said: "Towerfest promises to be a truly fantastic occasion, not only for those attending, but also for the area as a whole.

"By bringing such high-quality acts to the area, we will invigorate the local economy and show off our brilliant location to people from all over the world.

"We would like to thank Drax Power Station and the council for all the help they've given us in establishing what will be a truly world-class event."

There will be a dance area and the Confederate Country roadshow will bring cowboys and cowgirls together, before a fantastic western shootout.

Ms Vines said the day would climax with a spectacular on horseback, seeing an unprecedented number of cowboys and cowgirls gathered in the grounds of Drax Power Station to pay homage to the American Civil war.
