A REMOVALS man has complained to police after they raided his home for drugs and stolen property - but did not take any action against him.

The 36-year-old, who asked not to be named, lives in Hewley Avenue, in Tang Hall, York, He said police have now told him they would not be charging him, and that the electrical goods they had taken from his house during the raid on Monday afternoon would be returned to him.

But the man described the force's actions as "a travesty".

Officers arrived in five police vans to carry out the raid, after which police said they had seized controlled drugs, and what they suspected to be stolen goods.

The man said the 0.1 gram of marijuana the police had seized did not belong to him, that he was not a drug dealer, and that he did not handle stolen goods.

He said police had advised him after the raid that they were going to arrest him.

The man said: "I went to the police station at Fulford Road on Wednesday, but the police did not arrest me - no action has been taken against me.

"Everybody who knows me knows this is a travesty.

"It's caused me nothing but pain at a time when I don't need it - and my 15-year-old daughter doesn't need it.

"I've already complained to the police. I've had kids coming round shouting you're a smack dealer' - the ramifications have already started.

"I can't believe it. I've also got my daughter to think of, whose grandmother has just died.

"For me, life is difficult enough, and all I have ever done is tried to help people."

The Press understands another man, not the removals man, has been dealt with by police regarding the marijuana.

North Yorkshire Police spokesman Ron Johnson said: "A man has been dealt with formally for a drug offence in relation to that police raid."

Sergeant Colin Sutherland, of the response team, who co-ordinated the raid, told The Press: "We carried out a warrant under the theft act, acting on information received from the community."
