THE BNP claiming to represent true Christian values is no more of a lie than New Labour claiming to represent the working class, Conservatives claiming to be compassionate, the Liberal Democrats claiming to be all things to all men, and the Greens claiming to have a viable, realistic alternative.

It is all spin.

David Quarrie, Lynden Way, Acomb, York.

  • Without shirking, for 59 years I have voted for Labour, Conservatives, and Lib Dems, with considerable thought - this without loyalty to any of them or their biased philosophies.

Proud of my nationality and our way of life, I am concerned for the future, that our lives have been handed over lock, stock and almost barrel into the hands of two of these small, parochial groups, who are now in partnership, as pretend opposition to each other and self-perpetuating custodians of our affairs.

Having established this as the norm over 20 years, longer than our youth have lived or many more can remember, we feebly accept it.

I don't.

I want my vote, whoever gets it, to count for some degree of proper Government consideration, in relation to how popular the policies I voted for are.

Until that happens, I will consider any vote I might or might not make as lacking purpose and therefore pointless.

We may as well do away with politicians, and leave it to civil servants and private enterprise.

George Appleby, Clifton, York.
