I would like to thank Christine Wrightson (Hospital blunder left me in bed for a year, The Press, April 19) for drawing attention to the problem with NHS laboratory testing, which fails to recognise incapacitating adrenal fatigue.

There are some ME/CFS (myalgic encephalomyletis/chronic fatigue syndrome) sufferers who share her experience.

They too have found a reason for their fatigue via saliva hormone testing offered by private laboratories, and obtained appropriate treatment in the private sector by medically-qualified practitioners, who have come to appreciate the information saliva testing provides for chronic conditions.

York Hospital slurs these tests and doctors in the private sector with the comment "ordered by non-medical practitioners outside the NHS".

In saying this, they clearly show they have not reviewed the researched and evaluated these tests with an open mind, nor are they aware that the private laboratories are accredited, as are NHS laboratories.

This attitude fails patients, and is a factor that leads to the unhelpful label ME/CFS and all the negativity that accompanies it.
