AN actor from York is over the moon after Coronation Street bosses asked him to reappear in the soap.

Andrew Dunn, 50, starred in the show earlier this year as Roger, the plumber who whisked Janice Battersby off to France.

She fell for his charms - but then left him in France to return to the Street.

Andrew said his character, Roger, will return to the soap in July, and that he is set to stay in Weatherfield for at least three months.

He said Coronation Street chiefs have offered him a three-month contract, and may ask him to be a regular character in the Manchester show.

Andrew had been waiting since January to discover whether he would make a return to the soap.

He said: "I'm very pleased my long wait is over - it had been dragging on for ages.

"I'm due to start filming in May, but I have no idea what the storyline is going to be whatsoever."

Andrew believes his forthcoming stint on the Street will raise his profile as an actor, especially after the television and radio work he has done since he last appeared on the show in January.

He has a leading role in an episode of Casualty - to be broadcast in June - and played a main character in a BBC Radio Four play, which was aired last month.

Andrew said he enjoyed doing the play, but that "once you've done it, you forget what it was about".

He was tight-lipped about his story-line in Casualty.

With television roles having come and gone for him over the last few years, Andrew was reluctant to play-up the significance of his new contract with Coronation Street.

"Two years ago, I did the BBC drama 55 Degrees North, then it went quiet on me - you can't plan anything," he said.

The news will leave Corrie fans excited over whether Janice and Roger's flame will be rekindled when he returns to the Street.

It will be Andrew's third appearance on the show - he also starred as lecherous bar manager Laurie Dyson in a special episode shot in Blackpool in 2003.

"I was dressed in a lot of bling and bad shirts, and tried to get off with Liz McDonald," he said.
