AFTER his mixed bag of fortunes in the Far East, North Yorkshire swing commander Simon Dyson returns to Europe's putting fields.

Dyson is in a strong line-up for the Spanish Open, which makes history tomorrow when it is played for the first time at the Centro Nacional de Golf - the new headquarters of the Spanish Golf Federation just outside Madrid.

While out in the Orient the 29-year-old Malton and Norton GC ace was forced out of the Chinese Masters on the first day with food poisoning, but battled back to claim a cheque for more than £20,000 after finishing joint tenth in the BMW Asian Open at Shanghai.

York-based Dyson is currently 30th in the European Tour Order of Merit and 77th in the world rankings The event, which carries a total prize fund of two million Euros, is the oldest in Europe outside of The Open and hopes of a Spanish triumph for the first time since Sergio Garcia's conquest in 2002 will rest on Miguel Angel Jiménez.
