CLIFTON Cycling Club rider Kit Gilham crowned a fantastic start to the 2007 season by gaining sufficient points to move up to First Category by winning the Pete Gannon Memorial Road Race at Kippax.

Gilham is only starting his third season of racing and shows all the signs of heading towards greater things. His victory at Kippax was his third of the year in Second Category races, coming after wins at the Royal Sutton Road Race and - breaking clear on the first lap for a solo win some 55 kilometres later - at the Aire Valley event last month.

As an indication of things to come, he has also scored high placings among Elite riders, including fourth overall and King of the Mountains in the Easter Tour of the Border four-day event and fourth among Elites and first category riders at the Jack Granger RR season opener.

A former employee of club sponsor Cycle Heaven, Gilham is currently studying at Sheffield University.

Clifton Cycling Club now has road racers in all categories from first down to the entry-level fourth category, in addition to veterans' racing, time-trialling and all sorts of on and off-road non-competitive riding.
