LIKE Linda Hill's mother, I too have only a vague memory of the portable roundabout (Magic Roundabout, April 16).
It used to visit the Poppleton Road area on summer evenings, setting up at the end of Poplar Street opposite the school canteen entrance in the mid-1950s. Costing 2d (pre-decimal) a ride, it was quite popular.
Another regular visitor was the rag and bone man who gave a goldfish in return for unwanted clothing.
