MOVING floral tributes have been placed beside the spot where a man's body was pulled from the River Foss in York.

Family and friends of Dean Findlay have fastened flowers and cards to railings, alongside a cutting from The Press carrying a police appeal for information about his final movements.

Today police made a fresh plea for witnesses.

The Press told earlier this week how police divers found his body in the river, near Clifford's Tower.

Detectives investigating the death of 35-year-old Mr Findlay, who had been reported missing from his Sutton-on-the-Forest home, said a post-mortem examination indicated no suspicious circumstances.

Mr Findlay was last seen on Friday, April 13.

Detective Inspector Ian Dyer said: "While this is not a criminal investigation, for the family's peace of mind it is still vitally important that we establish what has happened to Dean Findlay.

"We know he was out and about in York city centre on that Friday night, and we need to speak to people who were with him, or who can provide us with information about his movements."

Mr Findlay was in the Victoria Vaults pub, in Nunnery Lane, between 7.30pm and 8.45pm.

Police believe he was with a group of four or five men. So far, none of them have been traced or identified, and officers are appealing for them to come forward.

They believe Mr Findlay may have visited other pubs that evening, including the Ha-Ha Bar, in New Street, and Fibbers, in Stonebow. Police want to hear from anyone who saw him after 8.45pm.

Mr Findlay was 5ft 11in tall with curly, dark brown collar-length hair. He was wearing blue jeans, a black shirt, a red top with white stripes on the sleeves and the figure 32 on the front and blue trainers.
