I was very pleased to read in The Press on Thursday that an event will be held for teenagers at Toffs in York (Nightspot holds teen club event). There are not enough events like this.
It went on to say how similar events used to take place at Ikon & Diva, and look how long that has been closed.
However, as I got to the end of the article, I couldn't believe they have to cheek to charge 13 to 17-year-olds £8 per admission.
This is ridiculous, as many of them will no doubt have to ask parents for the money, and when there is more than one child in the family it may be too expensive for them to go.
What really annoys me is that they charge only £2.50 with an NUS card, £3.50 without, on student night on Wednesdays, which I presume will be for more than three hours, and will have to have the same amount or more bar staff, door staff, etc.
What are 13 to 17-year-olds classed as? Surely they are still students, as they are still at school! They can't even have the option of paying less if you get in there early, as it starts at 6pm, and you can't get much earlier than that.
We need more events planned like this for teenagers, as there just aren't enough. But at £8 for only three hours who is getting exploited here, the teenagers or their parents?
