Many residents in Bishopthorpe rightly wish to minimise traffic through Bishopthorpe resulting from the Terry's factory site development. As local ward councillor, I have been pressing these issues with the council and the developers for many months.
It is sadly unsurprising to see the Tory candidate waking up to this issue so close to polling day and also, by implication, claiming much credit for other people's efforts (Terry's traffic village ban bid, The Press, April 26).
The argument that traffic to and from the Terry's site should not pass through this village has been led by the parish council, fully supported and backed up by myself.
Contributions to the effort by the Tory opposition have been conspicuous by their absence - until now.
It would be welcome if some acknowledgement of the contribution of the parish council, not to mention the ward committee, could have been included in this Tory version of the "story so far".
Coun David Livesley, Liberal Democrat, Bishopthorpe ward.
