NORTH Yorkshire ace of clubs Simon Dyson was right in the frame in the rain-hit European Tour's Spanish Open in Madrid.

Trying to play two rounds in one day after rain washed out much of Thursday's action, Dyson carded a bogey-free three-under 69 in his first trip around the Centro Nacional de Golf.

He picked up birdies on the seventh, tenth and 16th to finish tied for 14th place.

An absolutely blistering start to his second round put him right at the top of the tree. Starting at the tenth, he birdied that, the 11th, the 14th and the 16th to take a share of the lead with playing partner Nick Dougherty at seven under par.

But he dropped his first shot of the tournament at the 18th, his 27th hole of the day, with a bogey at the 464-yard par four. He then followed that by losing another shot at the very next hole, the par five first, to fall back to five under par.

Dyson managed to par the next before play was suspended as rain again intervened with the 29-year-old Malton and Norton ace still having seven holes of his second round to complete.

When he finally resumed he picked up another birdie on the way home to finish with abither round of 69 He trails the leader, Englishman Stuart Little, who leads the way on eight under par, by just two strokes.

Charl Schwartzel, first round leader Nick Dougherty and Mark Foster are joint second, one shot ahead of Malton & Norton GC member Dyson.
