FIRST the club's Under-15s did it, now York RUFC's U11s have got in on the act.

The young Clifton Parkers have swept to success in one of the Midlands premier rugby festivals.

And like their older colleagues who scooped the U15 regional championship a couple of weeks ago, the U11s went through the competition unbeaten and did not concede a single point.

They saw off rugby powerhouses including the likes of Rugby, Moseley, Sandal, Worcester, Chichester and south of England champions Cheltenham at the Worcester Festival.

Up front, it was only the determination and mauling of team captain Alex Machen with Campbell Thompson, William Scholey, Ollie Smith, Jacob Garland and Seb Dobson that held off the heavier but equally well drilled opposition.

At the base of the scrum praise must go to Jacob Green's whose resilience and quick thinking gave York a clear advantage while, in the backs, Dylan George side stepped his way out of trouble on numerous occasions.

Charlie Elliot's vision of space, Charlie McGivern's drives, Dobson's strength and speed, Arron Johnson's pace and Adam Price's power on the wing eventually overcame anything that was thrown up against them.

At full back, York never looked in any danger with Will Pepper and Archie Hinde both looking secure under the high ball. Eddie Coates came on in various positions as a sub and never looked out of place.

Tries were scored by Pepper, Scholey (2), Elliot notched a hat-trick along with Johnson, Thompson and Dobson (2), were York's other try-scorers.

The team will now look to maintain their unbeaten record with an end of season festival at Darlington on May 6 before going to Twickenham, the home of English rugby, on May 28 to compete in the finals of the Gullivers National Competition.

There was also success for York U9s who won back to back festivals at Driffield and Worcester.

They played five teams at Driffield, winning every match and scoring a total of 31 tries - without conceding any.

Their player of the tournament was Jacob Lloyd, who was rewarded for his outstanding defence and rucking.

At Worcester, the youngsters emulated the U11s success and saw off another five teams and drew 1-1 with Moseley.

They scored 20 tries, conceding just three and their outstanding players of the tournament were Doug Whiter, for his play making and tackling, and Jordan Wilkinson for his running with ball in hand.

The two successes are the latest gongs in a season of success for York's junior rugby scene.

Hundreds of youngsters hone their talents at Clifton Park every weekend with teams running from U7s to U16s.

Several of the current first team XV have come through the York youth ranks.
