EASINGWOLD Golf Club have hosted a National Golf Skills Challenge "Get Into Golf" session for the first time.
Youngsters aged between six and 17 put a variety of their skills to the test in the day-long session which was supported by the English Golf Union.
The aim was to improve golfing ability, increase young golfers' enjoyment of the game and provide encouragement for juniors to practice and improve their skills.
Included in the ten challenges were putting, chipping, pitching, bunker shot and the full swing. All scores were then entered into the National Leaderboard.
Gay Enos, Easingwold's Challenge organiser, and the club's junior section organiser, Tony Wilford, were helped at the session by Richard Brown, development manager from the EGU.
The emphasis was on fun but there was a competitive element with the day staged in two parts - Under-14s in the morning and Over-14s after lunch.
The challenge was, however, divided into two main groups - Rookie U12 and Tour Over-12.
Best Rookie in the morning was nine-year-old Ben Satter with Will Hockin, 13, taking the Best Tour honours.
Sixteen-year-old Stuart Rice won the Best Tour award with Mike Kay, 17, runner-up. The overall Best Tour player was Ross Earnshaw, 15.
The next Junior Challenge at Easingwold will be held on June 2.
Jordan's joy
Jordan Elliott, playing off 27, had a superb 12 under par net 60 to win Fulford junior section's Spring Cup, four shots ahead of Will Pepper and William Anderson.
