ARE people aware that this city of York is on the decline?
Some years ago I could go to Currys (Pavement), Comet (Piccadilly, then Layerthorpe), and to supermarkets like Presto (George Hudson Street, or as I prefer, Railway Street), Tesco (Piccadilly) and Fine Fare (Goodramgate).
All those types of store and more are now outside the city centre - a long way to go for any York citizens without a car, particularly for those in the pensioner bracket.
Our city is great for restaurants, book shops, clothes shops, etc, but what if you want to buy a bag of sugar? Oh, we have Marks & Spencer.
Give us a cut price supermarket in Piccadilly. It should pay dividends.
Bring the market back to Parliament Street. Many tourists don't know it's in Newgate, I can assure you.
Clifton Moor? There are housing estates there now. I guess they want to be near the shops.
Give us back our shops in old York centre.
