CAMPAIGNERS hope a feasibility study will be commissioned into the possibility of building a new railway station for Cliffe and Hemingbrough.
The idea has the support of local MP John Grogan, along with nearly 1,500 people in the villages and surrounding area who have put their names to a petition.
Reg French, the secretary of Selby Rail Users' Group, said Northern Rail, the train operator, had said a feasibility study would need to be carried out.
Mr French said he would be contacting the railways officer at North Yorkshire County Council about a study.
He said the council's transport plan for the county up to 2011 refers to the possibility of a new station for Cliffe.
The study would look at the cost, the siting of any building, whether it would be commercially viable, and whether it would be supported by local people. But Mr French said: "I think the question of whether or not it will be used has been answered with the petition."
