AS a young worker in the city, I am particularly affected by high house prices and rents.
An uncomfortably large part of my wage-packet is given over to renting my accommodation. I tremble in a cold sweat when I consider quite how large a mortgage will inevitably hang around my neck in the future.
Surely the only solution to this is the extensive building of new homes.
I was therefore irritated by the latest Green Party pamphlet that flopped through my letterbox, which promised to oppose "over-development" in York, and boasted of fighting against local developments.
My irritation has since been compounded by seeing so many Green Party posters so prominently displayed in the windows of some of the more affluent houses in my area.
While it would be unfair of me to suggest the well-heeled few are using a simplistic, selfish idealism as an easy substitute for true altruism, surely every party needs to propose a responsible policy on housing.
