IN reply to Peter Wheatley's letter ("So Confusing", April 19) I do not think he should blame York West Yorkshire bus company employees for misnaming Station Road as Station Rise.
My late husband was employed by York West Yorkshire (later National) bus company until his retirement and he was always quick to point out that the road up to the War Memorial was not called Station Rise. I do not think he was the only employee who knew that.
When I had to arrange a bus outing from the War Memorial pick-up point I gave the correct name for the road, which was disputed by some passengers. I think they had come to the Memorial Gardens area. When I produced an official Ordnance Survey map of York I was told that maps could be wrong.
I think the answer is more likely to be that people nationally think of a rising slope on the road as a rise, which has led to that section of the road being misnamed as Station Rise.
