TWO people have been arrested on suspicion of attempting to rob a cash machine.
Police were called to Knaresborough High Street at 6.10pm on Friday following reports of suspicious activity near a cash machine at the HSBC bank.
Officers said a white BMW car drove off from the scene, colliding with a police vehicle. The car was found abandoned soon after.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Following an extensive search of the area, we arrested two people on Harrogate Road, Knaresborough, at 7.20pm.
"A 24-year-old Ripon man was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery, dangerous driving and failing to stop.
"A 21-year-old woman from Ripon was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery. Both remain in custody at this time."
Knaresborough High Street was cordoned off during the search and reopened at around 8.30pm.
