SCHOOL children have joined their inspirational head teacher by running a mile for charity - while she completed a marathon.
Fishergate Primary School's Tina Clarke is currently training for the London 2 Brighton Challenge, on May 28, where she hopes to run 62 miles.
Her gruelling training schedule is about to enter its final stage and the plucky headteacher enlisted the help of her pupils to push her through the pain barrier.
The school already encourages its children to run a mile a day, and teachers used the daily run to help Mrs Clarke.
"It made a tremendous difference with them running alongside me," she said.
"They were supportive and it was great."
Office manager Helen Deighton and governor Darren Pridden ran alongside Mrs Clarke, who is raising money for SANDS - a charity which helps parents deal with the loss of stillborn babies.
She added: "My sister and brother-in-law lost their son at 18 weeks last year and SANDS made such a hideous situation bearable."
Mrs Clarke is hoping to raise thousands of pounds for the charity when she tackles the ultra marathon over 18 hours.
