NIMBLE-fingered knitters in York have created hundreds of Santa’s socks to be filled with sweets for local families, children and homeless young people most in need.
They will be donated to food banks across York, the charity Independent Domestic Abuse Service and homeless shelters for young people.
The Santa’s Socks initiative is a community arts project organised by the City of York Council’s York Learning team. The 2016 project saw social groups, individuals and Apprenticeship Childcare students at York Learning take part and make stockings
Councillor Nigel Ayre, executive member for Culture, Leisure and Tourism said: “York’s residents have once again shown their kindness and generosity by creating over 500 fantastic Santa’s socks and donating sweets to fill them.
“These will hopefully help to brighten someone else’s Christmas this year.”
