THREE people were arrested after a man suffered injuries in an assault in York.

North Yorkshire Police were called to a disturbance in the communal area of some flats in Grosvenor Terrace at about 9.50pm on Tuesday, and found a man with injuries to his face and arm.

He was taken to York Hospital for treatment, and is understood to have been discharged.

A police officer was also hit by an ashtray thrown while they dealt with the incident, and officers seized several stolen bicycles from the building.

An 18-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman were both arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault, assaulting a police officer and theft of a pedal cycle.

While at the scene, police were made aware of a stolen car connected to the incident, and a 34-year-old man was stopped in a George Hudson Street in a Mazda 6.

A police spokeswoman said the man was arrested on suspicion of assault and theft of a motor vehicle.

All three have since been released on police bail while investigations continue.

York Press:

One member of the local residents' association, who asked not to be named, said there were "two police vans, an unmarked car and an ambulance" in the area throughout the night and into Wednesday.

He said: "Speaking to residents they were pleased to see such a large force in attendance, and a considerable on going presence around the house in question."

Inspector Lee Pointon of North Yorkshire Police, said "we are working with the community closely, we are listening to their concerns and responding in a proportionate manner to the problem in the area", and urged anyone with information about illegal activity to report it on 101.
